When the Wax Melts

"Build me a set of wings,
out of your finest wax and string,
add the bird’s outermost feathers,
make the straps with finest leather.
Using string of ebony black,
sew the wings onto his back,
Cast him off into the sky,
smile as he plummets and dies."

A girl's voice, soft and sweet, reaches out and caresses each note of a haunting song. Smirking, she runs her fingers through the flames of a flickering candle.
"Build me a set of wings" She hums and reaches through the fire, scooping up a handful of hot and gooey wax, molding it in her fingers. Gently, she pushes and presses the wax into shape.

"Out of your finest wax and string" Her voice retains a steady rhythm as she brandishes a pair of shears. She rummages through the cupboards, searching for twine.
"This'll do." She mumbles, pulling out a foot-long piece of cord, and begins to intricately weave it through the soft wax.

"Add the birds' outermost feathers" She sings to fill the silence, gracefully pirouetting to the cages hanging on the earthen wall of her abode. Still humming, she plucks the wings from her bird of choice.
It squawks silently, its beak opening wide enough to notice that its tongue had been torn out. She had tortured it endlessly. Pinning its wings back so it could no longer fly and binding its legs to its perch. It couldn’t resist the greedy grasp of her hands.
She pulls away its feathers vigorously. She leaves with its prized feathers and ignores the pain in its glossy, unblinking eyes. Feet shuffling quickly now, across the hard floor, she adds feathers to delicate wings.

"Make the straps with finest leather" The melody continues as she decides upon a sheet of leather and slices off thin strips. With quick fingers, she skillfully sews the strips of leather to the wing's frame, binding it together.

"Using string of ebony black, sew the wings to his back" Her voice drops, singing harmony with itself as she pushes thread through the needle's head and begins to sew. Her fingers work quickly. She finishes within mere seconds. She admires her handiwork, neat stitches connecting waxen wings to a shadowy figure.

"Cast him off into the sky" The song sounds from her mouth like a haunted lullaby as she sets the man on the window sill, his head turning this way and that until he stares out over the ocean. Testing his new arms and legs, and the wings on his back, the man points out towards a distant land. The girl giggles, nodding her head as she opens the window wide.
The man leaps out, his wings catching the wind.

"Smile as he plummets and dies." She finishes, wiping an unexpected tear from her eyes as she closes the window. A smile cracks on her lips as she watches the wax drip steadily from his wings until he is engulfed by the sea.
Woo *Wipes sweat from forehead* it's finished! That took me a good 2 hours....xD
